Lupus Foundation

For information on Lupus

Someone you know has lupus

Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease in which the immune system loses its ability to tell the difference between foreign substances and its own cells and tissues. The immune system then makes antibodies directed against "self." It attacks the patient's organs, joints and other tissues and cells. Lupus can be a mild disease affecting only a few organs, or it may cause serious and even life-threatening problems. More than 16,000 Americans develop lupus each year. It is estimated that 500,000 to 1.5 million Americans have been diagnosed with lupus. The cause of the disease is not known and there is no cure.

The mission of the Lupus Foundation of America is to educate and support those affected by lupus and find the cure.

Here are some wonderful web sites for some exceptional musicians:

Fish

Fish

From Scotland, Fish sang for years with Marillion, but has been a solo artist for twelve years. His music combines the best of emotional rock with soul-stirring vocals and lyrics that will your rack your brain and tear your heart. If you like poetry with electrifying music, give Fish a listen. Click on "Media" on his home page and it'll take you to a sound clip page. Fish has ventured into acting with roles in various UK television programs some of which are, "Zorro," "Jute City," "Darkwells," "The Bill" and "A Young Person's Guide To Becoming A Rock Star." He has, also appeared in the film, "Chasing the Deer." Fish has now published his first book, "Masque," with artist Mark Wilkinson. This book is a must for people who love good CD artwork and like to know the story behind the pictures.

Steve Hacket

Steve Hackett

Steve played guitar with Genesis in the 1970's but has been a solo artist since his departure from that legendary band. Steve is not one to be pigeonholed in any one musical style. He has garnered rave reviews for his classical guitar work, as well as his rock music. Over his career, he has collaborated with many, many top artists. The man is so prolific that he doesn't bother to mix mediums on his CD's, but creates separate CD's, each, for his classical work and rock music. He's also done some soundtrack work such as "Second Chance" and "Outwitting Hitler." Steve's music is uniquely enjoyable on many levels. If you love great guitar work that'll make you cry and laugh and say, "WOW!", you must check out Steve's music. Click on "MP3" on his home page for samples of his music.

AlligatorStew

Alligator Stew

Alligator Stew brews up a great mix of rock, blues and a touch of cajun and good, ol' Louisiana rock. Gary Jeffries is one of the best singers you will ever hear. Alligator Stew's music reaches into your mind and stretches down to your toes. You can hear pure soul come through in Gary's and John Andrews' hot guitar licks, the solid, get-you-where-you-live rhythm section of T. C. Markle and Doug Richardson and Gary's rip-your-heart-out vocals. If you weren't born in the bayou, you'll feel like it when you hear this hot southern rock. If you want to get down and boogie with the best, check out their web site where you can listen to samples from their latest album.

Michael Duff

Michael Duff

Until recently, Michael was a songwriter/singer/guitarist with the band Chalk Farm. Since that band's demise, Michael has concentrated on a solo career. He writes subtle, but powerful music which touches people on many levels. His music is catchy without being poppy. In a time when so many popular singers don't seem to know how to really sing, anymore, along comes an artist like Michael Duff. His music is so warm that you find yourself tapping your toes and nodding along to his melodies; sliding right into the music and wishing you knew the words so you could sing along. Check out his web site where you can find samples of his latest works.

Looking for an outstanding photographer?

Paul Jonason Photography

Paul Jonason Photography

Paul has been an extraordinary photographer for many years. He has snapped everything from rock musicians in concert and at play, to the native peoples of South America, as well as landscapes and architecture all over the world. His work has graced magazine covers and won many awards. His photography is truly extraordinary. The man is a genius of the visual medium. Paul's nature photos will make you feel as if you are there. His portrait work is equally outstanding, as you can see by the small sample here. Paul and I have worked together for many music publications. In 1979, we shared our first cover story together--Phil Collins for "Modern Drummer" magazine. I did the writing and he did the shooting. Check out his site to see his exceptional work.

Actors To Look For

Billy Wirth

Billy Wirth

Billy Wirth is a marvelous actor, who is now expanding his horizons to directing. He has directed a brilliant film short called, "Kismet." And, now his feature-film debut, "MacArthur Park" has become a hit at both the Sundance Film Festival and Taos Talking Film Festival. This film has garnered rave reviews from the festival producers, as well as the press. Check out his acting in films such as "The Lost Boys," "Boys On the Side," "War Party," "The Fence," the television mini-series, "Children Of the Dust" and many other films. He was seen recently on CBS' "Martial Law," WB's "Charmed" and HBO's "Sex In the City." Billy is a multi-faceted artist who is also expanding his horizons by composing film music with his partner, Stephen Costantino. He is, also, creating visual masterpieces combining photography and painting.

Denise Duff

Denise Duff

You've probably seen this extremely talented lady in many television shows, films and commercials. She recently did a stint on "The Young and The Restless." Her credits are so extensive, that I will only include a partial list. She has appeared in "Northern Exposure," "Silk Stalkings," "Reasonable Doubts," "Matlock," "Danger Theatre," "Dream On," "The Young & the Restless" and "General Hospital." Her credits include movies of the week "Double Jeopardy" and Robin Cook's "Invasion." And, that's not even including her film work, which includes "Hell Comes to Frogtown II," "Phoenix," "Bloodfist 5" and "Martial Law." In the world of horror films, her filmography includes "Subspecies" series II, III & IV. Recently, she's appeared in the independent film, "The Silencing." Denise is making her directing debut with "Song Of the Vampire." And, if that weren't enough to keep this talented lady occupied, she is a professional photograper who has photographed hundreds of artists, actors and musicians.
